Why You Should Teach Your Baby To Read

Although the word is spreading that babies can learn to read, it is still a foreign concept to many people.  One question that comes up repeatedly is, “Why should I teach my baby to read?”  Continue reading and find out how it benefits your baby to learn to read early.

Babies learn to read because they are read to.  Babies learn to read because parents and caregivers take the time to read and point out words to them.  This can be done with books, flash cards, computer presentations, alphabet blocks, or any tool that exposes babies to language.

Studies have shown that the amount of words a baby hears before their second birthday will determine their future academic success.  Babies that hear a lot of language, whether from conversation, singing or being read to, develop at an advantage over children that were not engaged in this way.

By laying this kind of foundation for your baby, you make it easy for them to learn to read.  At birth, babies are absorbing all that is around them.  They learn the names for items, animals and people by being told what they are repeatedly and often.

It is in this same way that babies learn to read.  By seeing a word, repeatedly and often, babies are able to read these words.   Because of the way the baby’s brain is developing, it makes learning to read a simple and natural process for babies.  They are learning the written language at the same time they are learning spoken language.  They are able to make correlations between the two and become better, more natural readers.

Children that learned to read as babies do not struggle in school.  They have a strong start in literacy and have developed a love for learning.  When babies are taught to read, they are exposed to all kinds of books, and love to learn new things.  This is a tremendous benefit to a child, as it helps them become excellent students.

More literacy equals a better life and more pay in your child’s future.  Besides that, it is so easy and fun to do.  Several companies offer products that make it simple to get started.  The best time to teach your baby to read is today, so get started!
