Baby Sign Language
I started signing with my little one when she was a few months old. It was so cute when I would put her in the bathtub and I would sign for her to sit down and lie down and so forth, her little fingers would be moving as if she were trying to sign also. She was not able to speak but she could move her little fingers, even if she wasn't making any sense with them.

I found signing to be a lot of fun. I had some the Wee Sign video and that was helpful for learning a lot of signs. The problem is it is a bit difficult to memorize them since they introduce so many in the video. I came across Signing Time when a friend loaned it to me. I absolutely loved them. I learned the signs so quickly and then I could use them throughout the day with my baby. The funny part is that my 4 older daughters loved signing as much as I did. I have found sign language to be so useful for communicating with all my children, especially during quiet times. When we are far from each other and can't hear what the other is saying we resort to signing.
My daughter's first sign happened around 10 months old. She was able to sign lettuce. From there she took off and could do many more signs. I don't know if it has increased her intelligence, but it has been a lot of fun. We are now learning some Spanish and it is great to say the word in English, then sign it and say it in Spanish.
A few weeks ago my 4 oldest daughters entered a talent show. I needed to talk to them but they were across the room. Once I got their attention I finger spelled what I needed to say. It was great to understand each other when we separated by distance. I love signing and hope we can learn some more. You can check out www.aslpro.com. They have a video dictionary that makes it easy to look up new signs. I found that to be very helpful.
