encouraging Your Baby to Use Their Imagination
It is so wonderful to see your child's imagination developing right in front of your eyes. Having a vivid imagination is one of the beauties of childhood. Parents can help their children find their way by reading to their children and encouraging games around books and stories you have read. For example, if you read a story about knights and fire breathing dragons, you can pretend with your child that you are going on a mission to slay the dragon. You will soon notice your child's imagination taking off on its own.
My 2 year old daughter has been demonstrating a lot of imaginative play lately. She came out of the bedroom after a nap recently with her underpants on her head and she said she was Goo Goo from Jupiter. She stayed this way for quite some time and everyone in the house had a good laugh at her silly game. She seems to like the word Goo Goo. She says her baby doll's name is Goo Goo as well.
Recently she has an imaginary baby named Goo Goo that fits in the palm of her hand. She carries her around and tells me what Goo Goo is doing. She was very upset when her dad took Goo Goo from her hand and was tossing her around. Yesterday she hid Goo Goo in the pantry and forgot about her for the rest of the day. This morning when she woke up she went into the pantry and removed Goo Goo from her hiding spot and had me hold her for awhile.
Imagination is an incredible thing. I continually ask her questions about her baby Goo Goo in order to keep the imagination alive. Imaginative play is so important for children. Having a great imagination is something we should keep for our entire lives. For without one, life does become dull and boring.
