First Book is Done
I posted the other day that I was working on transforming a favorite book into a reading book for my 3 year old. It was a much bigger job that I ever anticipated. Actually, my 14 year old did the whole thing for me. It took her awhile to do it, but that is because the book is quite thick. I now have a binder holding this Maisy book.

Although my daughter can read the Maisy book on her own with the pictures, I wanted to separate the words so she would focus strictly on the words. I have a few other books that are much thinner that we will change into reading books this week.
What I really like about the Maisy Big, Masiy Small book is that each page has two words on it. This is a great transitional book for babies to go from one word to reading two words at a time. Here are a few pictures of our book.

So that is a small excerpt from our first modified book. If you want more information on how to make your own reading books check out A Guide to Teaching Babies to Read.

I do my own books. A much easier job on the computer than all that scanning. And I use the child's photos or photos of things he sees in his life. As for the Maisy book you did - isn't that way too simple for a 3year old who has already been able to read for qutie awhile? My 21-month-old books are with 2-line sentences at least already.
