I have also found that when you teach your baby to read it is easier for them to learn all sorts of things. My son just seems to grasp math concepts very easily. I did not do much math with him when he was a baby, but at 5 years old he has just completed second grade math. When he was learning about rounding and estimating I thought it would require quite a bit of explanation. I was wrong. He seems to pick up new concepts quickly without any struggle. It still amazes me.
I can't leave out the bond that was created because of teaching my baby to read. Looking back of over the first year of his life I have such fond memories. We had such a great time. Much of our play was centered around words and reading. We interacted and played together so much. Although he doesn't have any memory of me teaching him to read it is etched in my heart and I will always treasure the fun we had together. He cannot remember a time when he was unable to read. Reading is as natural to him as talking.
