Teaching Babies to Read - How Much Time Does It Take Each Day?

Teaching your baby to read can take anywhere from as little as 90 seconds per day up to 40 minutes per day. The wonderful thing about teaching your baby to read is that you can customize your program to work for you. As long as you have access to materials you can teach in as little time as you like or more if that suits you. In order to teach your baby in the least amount of time each day, it is best to use flash cards. That is because flash cards lend themselves to fast sessions several times a day.

In order to teach your baby to read with flash cards you will show a set of cards 2 or 3 times per day. Each session will take about 30 seconds or so, which makes for a total teaching time of a minute and half for the day. Not bad, is it? Imagine that you can teach your baby hundreds of words in one year with a 90 seconds investment each day.

If you are not under pressure with time you can take a slower more relaxed approach. This may still involve showing your baby flash cards but you can also add in some of the MonkiSee DVDs that are designed to teach your baby to read. The DVDs are around 30 minutes long, which is why your time commitment will automatically become longer.

Once your baby has viewed the MonkiSee DVDs a few times with you, you can have your baby watch it by themselves as long as you are close by and can properly supervise your baby's safety. While the time commitment is longer, it is not all parent directed learning. Many parents really enjoy the DVD option because they know their babies are learning while watching TV. Parents like to use this time to get through a task that is easier done without a baby close by.

If you are pressed for time and viewing a 30-minute video each day is not practical, you can utilize the slide shows on the MonkiSee DVDs. The slide shows quickly go through the words that are taught on each video. They are about 2 minutes in length. They present a word and then a picture. This is another quick and easy way to consistently teach your baby new words.

There are other products such as the Memoflix DVDs that act as video flash cards. These also give parents flexibility in the reading program. They can vary the tools they use, switching from flash cards to DVDs to video flash cards. Parents can use one or all of the options listed above to experience great results with their baby's reading program.
