Mom Loves MonkiSee
This is an email I received from a mom just the other day. She is sharing her experience using the MonkiSee Starter Reading Kitt with her baby boy. Here is here email.
Hi, Krista ~
I hope you are doing well! I just wanted to send you a little note to let you know how impressed we have been with the Monki See, Monki Doo products!!!
My son is only 13.5 months old, so not reading yet, but I can definitely tell he has tremendous "object recognition" from these products. You can see for yourself - below is a video of him that we took 1.5 months ago when he was only 1 year old. He cannot even walk yet in the video (you can tell in the video I am holding him up), but he is able to point out the following on his body when asked: head (which is partly cut out on the video...you can see him touching his head, but can't hear us say it), nose, arms, tongue, eyes, ear, hair, hands, and fingers.
1.5 months later he has added the following body parts to the list that he knows and can point out: shoulders, elbows, toes, knees, mouth, teeth, thumb
He can also say the following from the videos: mommy and daddy, bottle, baby, heart, oval, and bye (and knows what they mean). All of these I credit to the Monki See products we have been using. He has all of a sudden had a "language explosion" in the last few weeks, where he now has verbalized over 70 words. So, now that he has started to talk and communicate, I am really going to push the flashcards, because I should be able to tell if he can read since he can now say the words.
I have no doubt he will be able to "read" some words by sight very shortly as quickly as he has picked up on the objects!
From what I have seen (from comparing him to other kids at the playground, etc.) he is way ahead of where most children his age are as far as speaking and "object recognition." He even says "umbrella," "accident," and "octopus" (3 syllable words!) I TRULY believe a huge part of this is the Monki See products. Not only are they GREAT for him, but they have been great for me as a first-time mom as well. I have picked up on the way the videos "teach", and started using the techniques myself - i.e. creating silly songs and rhymes to help things stick into his head. Also, I think the videos are great because, unlike "Teach Your Baby to Read" (which I have also used and borrowed from a friend), it seems that your videos expose/show so many other objects that one can point out to your child as well. For instance, my son, Shaan, also says (and recognizes) the following words: kite, umbrella, balloon, melon, blueberries, car, basket, egg, ball, watermelon, cup, duck, hat, glasses, banana, bird. All of these items are "shown" in your videos, and he yells out the word every time he sees them. The videos are great for reinforcing additional items that children may see often, even though they are not specifically "taught." Another example...he knows what sounds many animals make - i.e. cow "mooing", horse "neighing", dog "woofing", and so on. The animal puppets in your videos reinforce these sounds, which is awesome - I'm sure he has learned these sounds in part to your amazing videos!
i just find the videos so much more practical than "Your Baby Can Read" at this point in time, although that product is also great. But, in the starter kit they teach words like "gorilla", "elephant," "hippo," etc, (which is fine), but I think Shaan learning his body parts, and words like "diaper", "bottle", "toys" etc is so much more practical at his age, because it's not everyday I can point out a gorilla to him, but I can point out his diaper to him every time he needs it changed. It just makes more sense!!!!
Anyway, I apologize for the long-winded email, but I REALLY have seen results with your products and thought you should know. Clearly, as a mother of 6, you knew what you were doing and what works, because I can already tell my son has picked up so much from these products, even at such a young age! If you create any additional products in the future, let me know!!! I am your biggest fan!!!
All the best,
~ Cammie
