Teach Your Child Patterning

Do you want a fun way to teach your child patterning?  How about with good old fashioned paper links?  I remember making these when I was a kid.  You can also use this to teach them colors.  It is fun to do and you can turn it into a learning experience if you use colored paper.  I showed my kids, ages 4 - 15, how to make link chains with plain paper the other day.  It was actually an activity for my 4 year old, but the older kids were all excited and wanted to make links also.

I decided to get some construction paper and let my 4 year old make up her own patterns.  She chose blue, orange, yellow and green.  I wrote the colors in English and in Spanish so she could learn to read the words in Spanish as well.  I prepared some small pieces of tape for her so she could easily tape each link together.

If you want to teach your baby to identify and read the names of the colors check out the MonkiSee All About Colors DVD.  It's a guaranteed fun way to introduce your baby or child to the wonderful world of color.
