Can any baby learn to read?

Let's just assume for this blog post's sake that you have seen babies on TV or the Internet reading, so you know that there are babies that can read.  Your next question may be can any baby learn to read or are these babies special?  That is a very good question.  Let's look at the answer.

It is a fact that ANY baby can learn to read if they are taught in a fun and joyous manner between the ages of 3 months old and 4 years old.  The babies that you may have seen reading are not special, in the sense that they are smarter than any other baby.  The difference between the babies that learn to read and babies that don't is that the babies that can read were provided with the opportunity to learn to read.

Babies that learn to read in the first few years of their lives usually have parents that prioritize incorporating literacy based activities for baby on a daily basis.  They value literacy and all there is to learn from being able to read and so they make reading a regular part of their child's daily routine.  They begin reading to their children at an early age and they may introduce products that focus on teaching literacy early.  They point out words to their babies, they show their babies flash cards and dvds that draw the child's attention to written words.  They may use computer programs that teach babies to read as well.  All of these activities mentioned generally require just a few minutes here and there throughout the day but deliver wonderful results.

Any baby can learn to read.  The only reason your baby is not reading is because you have not given them the opportunity to learn to read while bonding and having fun with you.  Incorporate some literacy activities into your baby's daily routine and you will be blown away by the results.  Some babies will read silently before they can even speak the words.  Some babies will begin to read orally at the same time that they start to speak. Other babies will not show that they can read and one day will just take off and start reading everything.  Any time invested in early literacy activities with your baby will yield a handsome return, but like all investments, it takes some time for the investment to grow or produce results.
