Reading to Babies, Toddlers and Twos
Lately I have been reading books about how important it is to read to our children. It is especially important to read to our babies, as this develops a love for reading as well as teaches babies so much about the word around them. For example, a city baby can see what the country is like and a country baby can learn about the city through the books that are read to them.
I picked up a copy of Reading to Babies, Toddlers and Twos at my local library. I recently finished reading it and immediately bought my own copy. This book is a wealth of information. It explains why we should read to our young children, but even more than that, it has countless book lists throughout the book. I normally borrow books from my library and buy only the really special books. When I first started to read this book I requested some of the books mentioned on different lists within the book. I quickly realized that I would never be able to request all the books that are recommended here, so I purchased this to have as a reference for new books to read.
I am already a huge believer in reading to our children, so I did not need any convincing there, but I love to discover great books that I have not read before. I love that the lists in this book are themed around certain subjects that all children go through. It also has lists of classics, popups. and so much more. I will share some of the lists in upcoming posts, but if you are a book lover or want to raise a book lover, this book is a valuable resource to have when it comes to choosing books to read to your little ones.
I already keep a lit of our favorite books to read, but this book has inspired me to categorize my lists based on the subjects. Please feel free to share your favorite books here.
