Fun Game to Teach Your Young Child to Read
This idea was passed along by a friend. I think it looks like a lot of fun. Games are a great way to engage young children in learning to read. I taught my babies to read using a lot of interactive games that I made up. This is not a game I have tried, but I can see my little children really enjoying this game and wanting to play it again and again. There are so many variations you can play. You can begin with word recognition and move on to sentence building by picking up words and arranging them in order, or focusing on cleaning up nouns and then verbs or any other part of speech you want. I can think of numerous possibilities.

To play the game purchase a garbage picker upper from your local dollar store. Write out several words on paper towels. The curve from the roll actually makes it easier to pick up the papers. Review the words and then lay them on the floor. Ask for a particular word and have your child give it to you. Do this until all the words are picked up. Repeat if your child wants another turn allowing them to pick up any word they choose, but have them say the word as they hand it to you.
